The District of Sechelt includes the Village of Sechelt, Selma Park, Davis Bay, Wilson Creek, West Sechelt, East and West Porpoise Bay, Sandy Hook and Tuwanek. There are several residential areas located throughout the region. In addition to a large shopping and services area and waterfront walkway, the Village of Sechelt is home to several art galleries and restaurants as well as the Provincial court house. The area includes a Golf Course, a long stretch of seafront walkway beach at Davis Bay, seaplane landings at Porpoise Bay and the Airport at Wilson Creek.
The District of Sechelt is home to several community and marine parks, provincial camping parks, hiking and mountain biking trails and a heritage forest.
DIRECTOR darnelda siegers
Darnelda Siegers, Mayor of the District of Sechelt, was most recently appointed to the Board on November 8, 2018. Darnelda Siegers is currently serving as Vice Chair of the SCRD Board of Directors.
She and her family moved to Sechelt from Alberta in 2009.
With a passion for life-long learning Darnelda has a diploma in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Education Degree (with double majors in Mathematics and Business Education), and recently completed an Executive Certificate in Local Government through Dalhousie University.
Darnelda has worked as Secretary Treasurer for a school board, taught high school mathematics and business education and has worked as a software implementation specialist. She currently works as an independent mortgage broker.
With a deep commitment to her community, Darnelda has given her spare time to the Seniors Planning Table, Sunshine Coast Housing Committee, Sunshine Coast Homelessness Advisory Committee, Sechelt Library Board, Planning and Community Development Committee, Finance, Culture and Economic Development Committee, Public Works, Parks and Environment Committee, Coast Community Builders Association and Sechelt Chamber of Commerce.
DIRECTOR Alton toth
Alton Toth was appointed to the SCRD Board effective November 1, 2019.
Toth was born and raised in Sechelt and is now raising his young family here.
After completing a construction electrical apprenticeship program in Vancouver, Alton moved back to Sechelt to enjoy a slower pace of life. He owns and operates the Sew Easy shop downtown. Alton’s volunteer work includes Scouts Canada and the Sechelt Downtown Business Association.
