Notice of Service Change - July 17, 2019
HALKETT BAY AND VAUCROFT PORTS APPROACHES CLOSED TO VEHICLES
In early 2019, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) undertook a load rating assessment on SCRD Ports. An assessment by professional engineers was completed, using Canadian reference standards for structural analysis. Following analysis, engineers have recommended that the approaches at Halkett Bay and Vaucroft be restricted to pedestrian loads until additional cross bracing is installed to address vehicle braking loads. Signage and a barrier will be installed shortly at these locations. The barrier will be movable to enable bulky hand freight to pass. Read the full Notice of Service change here.
Service Notice Update - July 19, 2019
Following the notice of service change issued July 17, 2019 restricting Vaucroft and Halkett Bay docks to pedestrian loads only, SCRD has undertaken further analysis and is permitting golf carts to travel on the wharf approach. Golf carts should be lightly loaded. No trailers, ATVs, gators or other vehicles are permitted to use the dock.
SCRD will communicate updates as capital repairs are scheduled. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
KEATS LANDING DOCK CLOSED TO VEHICLES – June 28, 2019
The SCRD is currently assessing damage to the north east corner of the Keats Landing wharfhead caused by a boat collision. Initial above water assessment indicate there are at least four piles that will require replacement. An underwater assessment is planned to take place this weekend before scheduling repairs.
Keats Landing dock remains closed to vehicles until further notice. The derrick/crane is also closed. Diving and jumping from the wharfhead are prohibited.
Dock users are advised to use caution near the north east corner of the wharfhead. There may be submerged hazards near the affected area. Please watch for divers working in the area.
The dock and float remain open for pedestrian and water taxi use.
Updates will be provided when available. For more information, please contact the SCRD Ports Division at 604-885-6800.
